Auditions – The Thrill of Love

Audition pieces for The Thrill of Love are now available and can be found here.

AUDITIONS: Monday 13 November at 8pm Fetcham Village Hall.
SHOW DATES: Thursday 15th – Saturday 17th February 2018

  • Ruth Ellis
The archetypal blond bombshell – a petite woman with a fiery nature. She is brittle and vivacious, but also extremely vulnerable and as we learn from the play, deeply damaged. Playing age 20s. A large role with lots of lines.
  • Jack Gale
Detective Inspector – think 50s Film Noir detective. He spends a lot of time watching the story unfold from the sidelines and alternates between either narrating the story or taking part in the action. He is clearly sympathetic to Ruth’s plight. Playing age 30s-40s. A large role with lots of lines.
  • Sylvia Shaw
Nightclub Manageress – a strong woman, although world weary and a little battle-scarred. Her hard exterior does however hide a soft heart, especially where Ruth is concerned. Playing age 30s-40s. A medium-sized role.
  • Vickie/Valerie Martin
Model and would-be Actress – the pre-cursor to the 60s “It” girl, along the same lines as Christine Keeler and Mandy Rhys-Davis. From a working-class background, but aspiring to much greater things. Playing age 20s. A smaller role.
  • Doris Judd
The loveable Charwoman – provides a little comedy to the piece. She is a selfless, kind and dependable young woman, very fond of Ruth – almost a mother figure, despite her young age. Playing age 20s-30s. A smaller role.
  • Nightclub Singer
I am also considering using a live singer (as opposed to a recording) to sing the snippets of music which run through the play. The songs are all sung by Billy Holiday, so very jazzy and moody. You would obviously not need to attend many rehearsals.
